Although the Sophomore Class elections have for many years been held during the early part of November, no definite date has yet been fixed for the choosing of the new 1929 officers. As far as can be learned from the present class officers who have now been in office for nearly a year, it is understood to be rather improbable that any steps will be taken towards the nominations for some time, at least not until after the mid-year examination period is over.
Last year the nominations for the Sophomore officers were announced by the retiring officers of the class of 1928 on October 21, 1925. An interval of a few days was allowed for nominations by position, and the ballots were distributed on October 29. At the end of a week's balloting, the new officers were declared elected on November 4. For many years the new officers have always been installed some time during November.
Smoker Due Soon
An important duty of the Sophomore officers is the appointment of the committees, notably the one having charge of the annual class smoker. Last year this was done on January 9, in 1924-1925 the appointments were announced on December 17, and in 1923-1924 on December 19. The annual Sophomore Smoker has always taken place directly after the mid-year examinations. The last one: engineered by a committee headed by W. G. Saltonstall '29, was held on February 8, the first day of the second half-year. Whether there will be a 1929 smoker this year is not yet known. Since it is entirely dependent on the election of officers and the appointment of the committees, it is probable that it will not take place for some time, if at all.
