At a recent meeting of the Phillips Brooks House Association Cabinet, sixteen men were chosen to make up the Harvard Northfield Committee, which has as its primary duty the organization of a group to go from the University to the Northfield Conference. This Conference will be held at East Northfield, Mass., from June 16 to June 24.
The Chairman of the Committee is F. V. Green '28. He will be assisted by L. U. Harris, J. P. Hubbard, and A. D. Phillips of the class of 1926, and E. H. Bailey, R. M. Mears, and S. H. Sturgis from the class of 1927. Four men, J. L. Beauchamp, W. N. Bump, J. C. Dreier, and J. H. Lane, were included from the class of 1929, and five, C. LeR. Allen, J. DeW. Hubbard, Gordon Huggins, K. D. Robinson, and G. F. Weller, were picked from the Freshmen Class.
Organize at Luncheon
This Committee met yesterday for luncheon at the Phillips Brooks House, and at this time more detailed plans for the Conference were discussed. Four men, in addition, spoke on certain phases of Northfield work. F. V. Green, who presided at the meeting, spoke on the Conference in general. Sidney Lovett of the Mt. Vernon Church spoke on the value which he had recognized in the conference since 1910 when he first attended, as a Yale undergraduate.
The program at the Conference, will be based upon a series of cycles, each one beginning with evening platform addresses by prominent speakers. Each morning, there will be two meetings, the first for Bible study, and the second for discussion of the points and questions brought up by the speaker on the previous evening.
Many Athletic Facilities
The afternoon will to a large extent be given over to recreation. The Conferences have always been a place where athletes from all colleges have met a friendly competition. Not only are there all the usual facilities for athletics, but in addition there is an excellent golf course, and beautiful country for hiking.
In the afternoon and evening there will be Vespers, and platform speaches.
Among the speakers who will be at Northfield this June are many who are well known thoroughout the country. The most prominent men who will lead the Conference are: Dr. G. R. Baker, C. S. Campbell, Dr. H. S. Coffin, Sam Higginbottom, C. E. Hurry, J. W. Macdonald, F. P. Miller, Dr. F. N. Seerley, Dr. R. E. Speer, Norman Thomas, Dr. H. H. Tweedy, Dr. R. P. Wilder, S. W. Wiley, the Honorable J. S. Wilson, and H. P. Van Dusen.
