1929 EIGHT, ON EVE OF RACE, ELECTS NORTON TO CAPTAINCY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The election of Charles McKim Norton, of New York City, to the captaincy of the Freshman crew was announced yesterday.

Norton prepared at Groton, where he captained and stroked the crew in his last year. This spring he has been at stroke on the heavyweight Freshman crew which has twice defeated the University regulars in practice races.

Following Coach Haines' usual policy, the 1929 captain was not chosent until shortly before the first race. Several men acted as temporary captains in order to give the crew a chance to decide who would make the best leader.

The Tomorrow the Freshmen face their first outside test of the season in the opening race of the regatta with Pennsylvania and M. I. T. If they live up to the expectations which have been raised by their practice showing tomorrow afternoon ought to see them a decisive winner.
