1929 NETMEN OPEN SEASON BY VICTORY OF 5-2 OVER MILTON

Schoolboys Contest Every Match Fiercely, Notably Doubles

The 1929 tennis team inaugurated the current season with a 5 to 2 victory over the Milton Academy players on the Milton courts yesterday afternoon. Several of the matches were long and hotly contested. B. H. Whitbeck Jr. and Hyman Lisker were the outstanding players in the Freshman ranks. They were given a close call, however, in the doubles, against Upton and Green, who forced them to three sets and the last set to deuce.

The summary

Singles--B. H. Whitbeck (H) defeated Upton (M), 7-5, 6-1; Hyman Lisker (H) defeated Green (M), 6-3, 6-2; J. H. Appleton (H) defeated Huguley (M), 6-3, 6-2; Robeson Bailey (H) defeated Tower (M), 6-1, 6-3; Orlandino (M) defeated Barnes (H), 6-4, 6-2.

Doubles--B. H. Whitbeck and Ryman Lisker (H) defeated Upton and Green (M), 4-6, 6-2, 8-6; Huguley and Tower (M) defeated C. R. Hamlen and H. L. Cobb (H), 8-6, 4-6, 7-5.
