The University fencing team, defending its intercollegiate title, tied the Army for third place in the foils at the Intercollegiate Fencing Tournament held in New York last week, trailing the Navy team, which took first place, and the Hamilton team.
The Crimson epee men captured third place in their tournament, which was won by Pennsylvania, with Yale second.
In the individual foils tournament, won by Hays of Cornell, Captain R. A. Durham '25 finished fourth and A. G. Carrillo '26, fifth. Durham, at the end of the regular bouts, was tied for second place, but dropped to fourth on the fence-off.
At the end of the tournament, Andres Gregorio Carrillo '26, of Havana, Cuba, was elected captain of the University fencing team for the coming season, and was chosen president of the Intercollegiate Fencing Association for the next year. This is the first time that a Harvard man has held the latter position since 1921, when S. H. Ordway '21 became president.
