The Student Friendship drive, making its three-day campaign for a fund for foreign student relief, finished the first day of its canvass of the University last night. Although quite a large amount was subscribed for the first day, the showing was not as strong as at this stage of the drive last year and the committee will make an even more intensive effort to reach its quota today and tomorrow.
On account of the impossibility of reaching every member of the University by means of an undergraduate collector, the directing committee has urged that any living outside of the regular college dormitories should make their contributions to them either in person or by mail. The committee, with Chairman J. C. McGlone '26, will hold office hours in the Varsity Club this evening from 6 to 12 o'clock when they will receive any personal contributions and the reports of collectors. They have also urged that all the collectors hand in their complete reports tonight as the remaining half day tomorrow must be used for the collection of any subscriptions which may have been overlooked.
In carrying on the campaign the committee has tried to emphasize the worthiness of its cause which is not, strictly speaking, of a charitable nature. The money is devoted to enabling the students to attain a point where they will be able to support themselves and not to furnishing them with a purely gratuitous college education.
