ONLY FIVE MORE DAYS LEFT TO ENTRANTS IN THE CRIMSON PRIZE ESSAY CONTEST

On Which the Successful Essayist Will Sail to Europe This Summer For a Six Weeks' Tour

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The CRIMSON Essay Contest, which offers to undergraduates their first opportunity to express their opinions on various issues confronting the University will close early next week, on Tuesday, March 24.

The winner will be awarded the 1000 scholarship for a trip in Europe this summer, known as the United States Lines Tour.

Professor Bliss Perry, Mr. D. M. Little '18, and Dean E. A. Whitney '17, who have been chosen as judges for the contest, will consider the essays submitted on the basis of their constructive thought and their literary expression. They will award the scholarship to that author who best combines these two qualities.

Of the essays submitted, several of marked excellence will be published, anonymously, in the columns of the CRIMSON. Early in April the name of the undergraduate and the reprint of his essay, will appear.

Wide Range Offered for Discussion

The subject of the essay, "What one particular policy, plan, or improvement would you like to see extended or inaugurated at Harvard?", allows the contestants great freedom of discussion. Many aspects of the University, subjected to close scrutiny in the press, have been presented only as vague issues. It remains for undergraduates to describe from their points of view the needed improvements in the tutorial system, the future architectural development of the University, the proposed Business School, the loss of Professor Baker, or any other subject or plan in which they are interested.

All preparations are being made by agents of the United States Lines for the accommodation of the Harvard representative. Within ten days of the announcement of the name of the winner tickets and contract will be sent him and suggestions for his better accommodation will follow shortly.

Will Announce Preparations

The Boston office of the United States Lines has issued new announcements regarding the student's preliminary preparations. These will be given the winner as soon as he is known.

While the escorts on each trip will act as companions and chaperones, they will not be lecturers or conductors, in the accepted sense of the word. The work will be carried on by local, English speaking guides whose familiarity with the locality will insure the best service
