In today's CRIMSON appears the first offering of The Crime. It is a cold world in which to launch an infant "colyum". The young thing must fend for itself from the first moment of its inky existence. Some critics will look for hidden wisdom between its lines; some will always demand a lofty humor which mellows inwardly but never cracks a smile; and some will even expect the silly young thing to talk sense. But these hypercritical fellows do not count.
Let it be said in favor of the new column: never will it be governed by calendar or clock. Without premeditation and sans arriere pensee, in a simple effusion from the heart. The Crime will come, like a Quaker's meeting, whenever the spirit moves. On the whole it is expected that the spirit will vibrate, or knock, or whatever it is spirits do, about once a week.
In more senses than one it is hoped The Crime will be Harvard's own crime. Every member of the University is free to become an accomplice, if he feels the mood upon him. All contributions should be addressed "The Crime Editor", but in all cases, the editor reserves the right to withhold publication, if for any reason, he sees fit.
So, gentlemen, upon the morning of its birth, a toast: "Here's to The Crime!"'
