PROBATION BAN OFF TWO WEEKS EARLY

College Office Also Announces That New Removals and Additions to Dean's List Are Effective Immediately

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

One hundred and forty-three undergraduates are now being notified of their relief from probation as a result of the mid-year examinations. It was announced from University Hall last night that this action would begin now instead of two weeks later as has hitherto been customary.

This unprecedented step has been taken as a result of a recommendation of the Student Council followed by a vote of the faculty. The purpose is to expedite disciplinary action and more nearly equalize the periods of probation. Up to this year the second half-year has always been a week shorter than the first and this action making the two equal for disciplinary purposes will be followed next year by an official balance of the semesters.

Only those men who are on probation and dropped students are affected by this action. The regular dates of March 3 for upperclassmen and March 4 for Freshmen will continue as the dates for disciplinary action for men whose mid-year grades were unsatisfactory.

77 Freshmen Are Relieved

Of the 143 men who were relieved, 77 were Freshmen. Since mid-term disciplinary action, except in unusual cases, has been done away with this year, most of the 66 upperclassmen who are now being relieved are men who were on probation because of failure of last year. Of these men 23 not only secured their relief from probation but obtained grades sufficiently high to warrant their rein-statement in their original classes.

When the Administrative Board considers the records of men who are unsatisfactory, each man is seen in a personal interview by the Assistant Dean in charge of his class and by the Acting Dean. In the cases of the latter group letters are obtained from the student's instructor and his faculty advisor. This action will take place before the official date for its announcement.

Dean's List Changes Effective Now

Together will this is has been announced that all men who received an average grade of B or better for their courses at mid-years are at once entitled to the privileges of the Dean's list. The letters from the Dean in acknowledgement of the fact will probably not be out until March 15. Those men who have been on this list, however, and whose grades at the mid-years did not maintain the standard are automatically denied its privileges.
