CIRCOLO WANTS GONDOLIERS NOT ENGINEERS IN VENICE

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The protest against motors in Venetian gondolas received added impetus recently when the Circolo Italiano gave its support to a petition addressed to Premier Mussolini. The petition reads as follows: "To his Excellency, Benito Mussolini:

"We, the undersigned, respectfully beg to call your attention to the proposed order for putting motor engines on the gondolas in Venice, and ask that you consider such measures as you may think proper to prevent this order which would cause the destruction of the tranquility, the beauty and the unique charm which has always made of Venice a city universally beloved and a cherished goal for all travellers."
