BOOTT MUSICAL PRIZE COMPETITION BEGINS

PRIZE AWARDED ONLY IF WORK JUSTIFIES IT

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A prize of 100 dollars, provided for in the will of Francis Boott '31, and known as the Boott Prize in Musical Composition, is open to competition among members of both the college and graduate schools, it was announced yesterday.

The prize will be awarded to the writer of the best composition in concerted vocal music. This composition must be for at least four voices, and may be either with or without accompaniment. Either secular or sacred music may be written, but if the sacred type of music is chosen, the type exemplified in Cherubin and Mozart is especially recommended in Mr. Boott's bequest to the University.

Work Must Deserve Prize

The prize will be awarded only, it is announced, in case a composition is submitted which, in the opinion of the judges, is deserving of it.

Title pages of all manuscripts submitted must be signed with an assumed name or a motto. This assumed name or motto must then, together with the competitor's real name, be enclosed in a sealed envelope. All manuscripts must be in the hands of the chairman of the committee before April 15, 1926. They should either be sent to the chairman, Arthur Foote, at 158 Ridge Avenue, Newton Centre, or handed in person to him at the New England Conservatory of Music.
