J. H. Dempsey '23 and A. W. Samborski '25 have been appointed coaches of Freshman hockey and basketball respectively, it was announced recently.
Dempsey, who was defense man and captain of the second University hockey team during his last year at Harvard, has turned out two undefeated Freshman sextets in the last two years, and his reappointment consequently occasioned no surprise.
Samborski captained and played guard on the University basketball team which defeated Yale in Hemenway Gymnasium last year. Besides his years of stellar playing on the University quintet, he was regular catcher on the Crimson nine last year and coach of the second football team this fall. In his Senior year he also played halfback on the University football team, but failed to get his letter.
The 1929 basketball season was officially started with a meeting of candidates last night though unorganized playing has been going on for some time in the Freshman Athletic Building.
