CRIMSON HARRIERS WILL FACE MIDDLEBURY TODAY

RUNNERS TO START FIVE MILE COURSE AT 4 O'CLOCK

Only three members of the Crimson cross-country team that faced Yale a year ago will be in action this afternoon when the University barriers open the season against Middlebury.

Captain W. L. Tibbetts '26, Edward Gordon '27, and L. B. R. Barker '26, are the runners who last year faced the Blue. Several members of the squad in former years, however, will be on hand. Peppino Portfolio '26, R. M. Parker '26, and E. B. Boyce '26 are all experienced cross-country runners. E. C. Haggerty '27, intercollegiate mile champion and J. W. Perkins '26, are distance runners who have gained fame on the cinders.

Injury Keeps Out 'ONeil

A. H. O'Neil '28, last year's Freshman captain and holder of the Freshman record, is unable to compete because of a sprained ankle, but his classmate, R. G. Luttman '28, who also broke the old record when O'Neil set the new mark, will be watched with interest today. L. J. Novogrod '27 and W. V. King '28 complete the team that will face Middlebury.

The race will start near the south end of the Anderson Bridge at 4 o'clock, the runners covering the five mile course which ends opposite the University boat-house. Spectators wishing to follow the race in automobiles are warned that the Brighton bridge is under repair and that the runners will cross the temporary footbridge at that point.

Last year Harvard defeated Middlebury, 20 to 49, and indications are that the victory will be repeated this afternoon. The University harriers, under the tutelage of Coaches E. J. Farrell, Jakko Mikkola, and D. J. O'Connell '21, seem set for a successful season.

At 2.30 o'clock, an interdormitory meet will be held among the Freshmen to determine the 1929 team to face Arlington High next Friday. Inexperienced runners are urged to report for this race, which will be over a short course.
