ACTION POSTPONED ON NEW BASEBALL COACH

GAME TO BE PLAYED IN NEW YORK ON JANUARY 2

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The appointment of a new baseball coach to succeed E. W. Mahan '16, who resigned his position this summer, has been indefinitely postponed by the Athletic Committee at its first meeting of the fall. It was decided to postpone any final action on the appointment of the new Baseball Advisory Committee until November 2. This committee, when appointed, will choose the new coach, its decision being subject to the approval of the Athletic Committee.

Will Be Second in Two Years

The postponement means that fall baseball will continue under the tutelage of Fred Mitchell, battery coach, and Claude Davidson, Freshman mentor. The naming of a new University coach will be the second of such appointments in less than two years, Mahan having been named as successor to former Coach Slattery about a year ago.

The Athletic Committee also authorized a charity hockey game, to be played between the University sextet and McGill University in New York during the Christmas vacation. The contest will be held at the newly-built arena in New York on Saturday, January 2, and the proceeds will go to the Children's Hospital. This game in New York marks the first trip taken by a University hockey team in years without Yale or Princeton as the opponent.

Name New Committee

Dr. Alfred Worcester '78, Director of Physical Education, Dr. Roger I, Lee '01, and Major F. W. Moore '92, have been appointed on a committee to consider and report on methods of medical supervision of athletic teams.

The Athletic Committee also authorized a practice game between the University soccer team and Clan Sutherland, to be held at Soldiers Field tomorrow.
