DARTMOUTH DISCONTINUES FORCED CHAPEL SERVICE

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Hanover, N. H., Sept. 18. It was announced here yesterday that compulsory morning chapel attendance at Dartmouth has been definitely abandoned. Compulsory attendance has been traditional from the time the college was founded, but it was made optional experimentally last spring, the result being a falling off in attendance to practically nothing. Sunday attendance is, however, still required.

Yesterday's announcement came as a great surprise, although the sentiment in favor of voluntary services was strong.
