ODDS FAVOR TIGER BATTERS TOMORROW

University Wins 5-4 Contest From All-Star Aggregation--Todd's Homer Ends Practice Game Yesterday

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A 5 to 4 defeat, an unexpected 4 to 3 win and an 8 to 0 whitewash in the last game, gave the Crimson the edge in the Princeton series in 1919, the only other series with Princeton since the War to have gone to three games When the University lines up against Princeton tomorrow afternoon at Fenway Park it will be in much the same situation as was the 1919 team. With the odds in favor of the Tiger nine again, Spalding will try to duplicate the feat of W. B. Felton '19, who startled the baseball world by allowing the Princeton team only two hits.

The 7 to 0 Crimson victory in the first game, upsetting the predictions of the dopesters, and the neck-and-neck struggle in the Tiger's own lair, which went to Princeton only after a ninth inning rally, will offset in some measure the comparative scores which make the Orange and Black the favorite for tomorrow. Upsets are all too common in such series, and the final verdict may depend, as it did in the second game, on which team gets the breaks.

Crimson In Bad Slump

Since the last game at Princeton, the Crimson nine has settled into a bad hitting slump, losing the only two games played to Brown, 4 to 1 and 1 to 0. Much of the slump, however, can be blamed on the hurling ability of Neubauer and Duggan, the two Brown aces. The team has been hitting much more consistently in practice lately and the Tiger nine will find a more dangerous attack tomorrow than Brown did last week.

Victories over Fordham and Yale will lend the Princeton team added confidence tomorrow. Coach Slattery and Spalding watched the game and expressed the opinion that Townsend, mainstay of the pitching staff two years ago and moundsman against the Crimson in the second game, will be Coach Clarke's selection tomorrow. Townsend has victories to his credit over Georgia, 7 to 2, and over Columbia, 7 to 4, in each of which he stared on the attack with a timely triple. Spalding will, in all probability, have a chance tomorrow to avenge his first defeat.

University Wins Practice Game

Yesterday, the University nine worked out in a practice game with the team made up of the 1927 and Second teams whose schedules were finished last Saturday. Booth, the Freshman star, pitched a 5 to 4 win for the University. Coach Slattery wanted to give the team practice in hitting a left-hand delivery in anticipation of the game tomorrow, when it will probably oppose Townsend's left hand shoots. Accordingly, Casto, the University southpaw, filled the box for the combination team. The score was tied 4 to 4 in the eighth inning when Todd crashed one of Casto's deliveries for a home run which won the game. The Second team was represented yesterday by Captain Rice who played at third base, Field at first and Amsden in center field. The Freshman players were Captain Zarakov at second base, Howard at shortstop, Bennett in left field, and Durant in right field. Check donned the catcher's mask against the University. This team will oppose the first string nine until the end of the season. The next practice game will not be until Thursday because the University team is scheduled to spend this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon at Fenway Park, first watching the Braves and then winding up the Princeton series.
