C. J. Shearn 1L., runner-up in last year's University epee tournament, won the University foils championship yesterday when three straight wins in the final round put him ahead of J. K. Watson 1L, who took second place. Both were members of the University team last year and in the elimination contests yesterday, were tied with D. F. Cavers 1L and A. G. Carrillo '26. In the play-off, Shearn was undefeated while Carrillo succeeded in winning one close bout from Watson.
It is an unwritten rule of the University Fencer's Club that a champion shall never enter the tournament again. Consequently, Watson, last year's epee champion, will be unable to enter the contests at 3 o'clock this afternoon, leaving Saewrn and Captain E. H. Lano '24, with his brother, E. L. Lane '24, as the logical favorites.
