At a rather small gathering in the Music Building this morning at 11 o'clock, a portrait of Professor Walter Raymond Spalding '87 will be presented to the University by the Overseer's Visiting Committee for the Music department. The portrait is the work of Joseph Scott MacNutt '06.
Mr. MacNutt painted the canvas last summer at his studio at Ogunquit, Maine, and the Visiting Committee, headed by Owen Wister '88, were so impressed with it as to purchase it so that it might be a permanent possession of the University. At the ceremony this morning Mr. F. W. Hunnewell '02, Secretary to the Corporation, will receive the gift on behalf of the President and Fellows. Arthur Foote '74 and other prominent Harvard musicians are expected to be represented, in addition to the members of the music department.
