Because of a short season this year, due to Easter coming late, and final examinations unusually early, the University tennis schedule has been planned with the object of bringing the team along slowly until the match with Yale on May 24. Following this contest, the University is entered in the Intercollegiates which will be held this year at the Merion Cricket Club, Merion, Pa., beginning Monday, June 23. The second team schedule is unusually difficult, containing many teams which the University has played in former years, notably Collate and Brown. The freshman schedule continues to develop as in former years, with Columbia 1927 the new addition.
At present nine men are working out daily at Longwood. I. B. Bondi was in this group originally, but his studies will make him unavailable until after the April Hour Examinations. This is a serious loss, because Bondi earned his letter on last year's team.
Beginning Monday, March 17, a round-robin tournament will be played at Longwood among the lower six men on the squad to determine the personnel of the team which makes the southern trip. Captain Pfaffman, Briggs and Ingraham not competing. This tournament will last about three weeks.
On Wednesday, March 12, the first important meeting of the year will be held in Randolph Breakfast Room, at which all candidates for the University team will be enrolled. The following Tuesday informal practice will begin at the Freshman Athletic Building. This will be voluntary, but Coach Cowles has urged all men to use this practice for the improvement of their ground strokes and service. The freshman candidates will be called out the following week when interdormitery basketball is over.
A competition for the position of second Assistant Manager will begin Monday, March 24, to last approximately eight weeks.
