COACHES CONTINUE SHIFTS IN LINE-UP

After using Kilgour at different times this year in every position, the coaches yesterday shifted him to the backfield. Early in the season this versatile Sophomore player had signed up for either an end or a tackle berth. His 195 pounds, however, made him more useful as a guard or a center, in which positions he has seen service in most of the games this fall.

At the same time a blackshirt was promoted to the University squad in the person of J. R. Fordyce '26, 190-pound tackle. Although he failed to receive his numerals, Fordyce was a member of his Freshman squad. Last year ineligibity kept him away from the gridiron all fall.

The uncertainty about the injured players makes it difficult to predict what lineup Coach Fisher will start against Brown on Saturday. Nothing new could be learned yesterday regarding Daley, Adie, or, Cheek. The fact that none of these three are even reporting at Soldiers Field, however, makes it certain that they will not face Brown and doubtful whether they will see action against the Elis. Gehrke is known to be nearly ready for play, but using him this week would be pushing things too fast.

Miller and Zarakov Doubtful

Miller and Zarakov will probably be available if the coaches are hard up for substitutes on Saturday. It is too late in the season to take any chances with first string men who are not in 100 per cent shape, and so these two backs will very likely witness the Bear's invasion from the players' bench.

This leaves Samborski, Maher, Sayles, Hammond, Kilgour, and Rogers as the most likely group from which Coach Fisher will pick his backfield. Of these the first two named seem surest of their positions. If Maher captures the kicking job for Saturday, probably neither Hammond nor Rogers would be used. Sayles and Kilgour are left for the third place. The farmer has only recently been brought up from the scrubs and the latter has never been seen in the backfield, so that it is impossible to judge between them. A pure guess based on speed and weight favors Kilgour.

Stafford Likely Quarter

There is no reason to believe that Stanford will not begin the conflict at the quarterback berth. His showing on Saturday marked him as the most alert man on the Crimson team and made him by all odds the most promising field general for the final games, barring Cheek's recovery.

The line that made up Team A yesterday will with one possible exception, probably remain intact throughout the week. It was as follows left end, Gamache; left tackle, Liadner ; left guard; Theopold; center, Greenough right guard, Dunker; right tackle, Coady; right end, Dean. The possible exception would be Chase in place of Dean. The former held the berth during the first part of the season, but lately Dean has been giving him strong competition.
