Prominent Men Will Discuss Problems of City Government--Mayors Curley and Peters to Speak Tomorrow

The thirtieth annual meeting of the National Municipal League, of which President Lowell is vice-president, will meet in Cambridge and Boston for three days this week, beginning this morning, as the guest of the University and the Boston Chamber of Commerce.

Two Boston Mayors To Speak

In the three day program there are included several meetings open to the public. On Tuesday afternoon there will be a discussion of "The Government of Metropolitan Areas," at which papers will be read by Mayor James M. Curley of Boston, Mayor Clayton C. Townes of Cleveland, Ex-mayor Andrew J. Peters, and C. A. Dykstra, secretary of the Los Angeles City Club.

"The Boston Charter--Is It Undergoing Repairs?" will be the topic to be discussed on Wednesday afternoon in the New Chamber of Commerce Building in Boston. At this meeting the speakers will be Richard S. Childs of New York, John F. Moors '83 of Boston, Fellow of Harvard College, and George R. Nutter '85 of Boston. Hon, Nathan Matthews '75, Mayor of Boston from 1891 to 1895 and subsequently chairmen of the Boston Finance Commission, will preside.

President Lowell To Be Toastmaster

On Tuesday evening at the annual dinner in the New Chamber of Commerce Building President Lowell will be the toastmaster. The speakers will include Hon. Frank L. Polk, President of the League and former Under Secretary of State, and Dr. Charles A. Beard, former Professor at Columbia, and subsequently a Director of the Institute of Municipal Research in Tokyo, Japan.

On Wednesday morning the meeting at the Chamber of Commerce will discuss municipal home rule. Professor Thomas H. Reed of the University of Michigan, formerly executive secretary to Governor Hiram Johnson of California, will preside.
