The Freshman baseball team by an eighth inning rally turned what hid fair to become a defeat into a victory, and finally downed the Westbrook Seminary nine by the score of 6 to 5 on Soldiers Field yesterday. The game was fast throughout, the visitors hitting freely in the early innings and piling up a 5 to 3 lead.
Matters started off with a rush when, in the first inning, McQuiggan, the visitors opening batter, hit cleanly to first Clune advanced him to second on a sacrifice and Shea's hit brought him home. Shea himself was advanced to second on an error by short-stop and to third by Massey's hit. He was caught, however, trying to steal home and Cummings struck out, retiring the side.
The Freshmen evened up matters with a surprise run by Knowlton who was sent to first by the pitcher, made second on a passed ball, reached third on the catcher's error and came comfortably home on an error by the center fielder.
The visitors scored once more in the second and piled up three in the sixth, when Leary crashed out a home run. The Freshmen tallied twice in the fifth, taking quick advantage of a series of errors and walks. The game was saved in the eighth when Kelbeher, the Westbrook pitcher, allowed two bases on balls and hit Todd. Before the side was retired eight men had been at bat and three runs had been brought in.
The teams lined up as follows:
Harvard 1926--Knowlton 2b., Slayton s.s., Todd c.f., Field 1b., Burton l.f., Allen r.f., Pratt 3b., Cheek c., Moseley p.
Westbrook Seminary--McQuiggan c.f., Clune 3b., Shea s.s., Cronin 2b., Massey l.f., Cummings c., Kelbeher p., Leary r.f., McVey 1b.
