TENNIS TEAM CHALKS UP FIVE STRAIGHT VICTORIES

Five successive victories, preceded by a tie match, stand as the record of the University tennis team on its spring trip during the past week. Excellent weather made possible the playing of every match, whereas last year two were not completed, one not even played, and one played indoors, because of wet courts. The end of last year's trip left the University with one defeat that by the Chevy-Chase Country Club of Washington, D. C., but the laurels of the victor exchanged hands last Thursday, when the University easily won 7-2. During the entire trip, Morris Duane '23, captain of the team, played no singles matches, being barred by doctor's orders.

On Saturday, April 14, the Agawam Hunt Club of Providence, Rhode Island, was tied 3-3, as Ingraham, Guiles, and Dickson won over A. W. Jones, R. W. Dana, and C. K. Shaw respectively. Duane and Ingraham, and Briggs and Dickson, were both defeated in the doubles matches by close scores. The other point of the Agawam Club was made by R. N. Dana who defeated Briggs, 6-4, and 7-5. One match of singles and one of doubles were not played because of darkness.

Defeats Norfolk Country Club

After defeating the Country Day School at Richmond by a score of 8-0 last Monday, the team went on south to Norfolk, where it defeated the Country Club of that city 7-1. In the singles each University man required but two sets to win his point. The one tally against the Crimson was due to Duane's two Bundys, M. H. and F., who defeated Ingraham and Duane 6-2 and 6-3.

The University on Thursday, April 19, in Washington, avenged itself for its 1922 defeat by the Chevy-Chase Country Club by outscoring that team 7-2, while one of the two points made against the Crimson was due to Duane's not being able to play in singles.

Record Momentarily Threatened

By the Baltimore Athletic Club the University's clean record was threatened inasmuch as the former was only defeated by a score of 3-2. Two singles matches were not played, one because of darkness, and the other because Dickson was called home.

The final match of the trip was against the Navy at Annapolis, which resulted in a Harvard victory 5-0. In this match the University players lost but one set.

There will be no regular tennis practice for the team during the early part of this week although the tennis team of the Business School will be played on Jarvis Field next Saturday.
