Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
Unless there is a change in the weather conditions which will make the ground too soft for use, the spring football season at the University will begin this afternoon at 3.30 o'clock when the squad will report at Soldiers Field for its first practice. At the meeting which was held last Friday in the Varsity Club about 120 men reported, but it is probable that, because of the large number engaged in other spring sports, only about 55 will be out.
The work this spring will last about three weeks and will be devoted primarily to drill in the fundamentals of the game, while in the latter part of the period the men will be given an opportunity to learn some of the simple plays used by the University team and will also have a chance to scrimmage. The importance of the spring work this year has been emphasized by Captain C. J. Hubbard 3E.S. and the coaches because of the agreement between Harvard, Yale, and Princeton which prevents fall practice from beginning more than one week before the colleges open.
Mr. R. T. Fisher '12, who has been in charge of the Crimson football teams since 1919, will be in personal charge of the squad this spring. He will be assisted by Coaches J. L. Knox '98, D. E. Parmenter '13, and by several of this year's letter men, including Vinton Chapin '23, P. F. Coburn '23, C. A. C. Eastman '24, and J. M. Hartley '23. The coaches are planning to hold dropkicking, punting, and placement kicking contests at the end of the practice period, as was done last year.
