Professor Robert Gay of the English Department of Simmons College addressed the English 28 Club on "The Significance of the Essay Today" last night in Gore Hall Common Room, declaring that Frank Moore Colby is America's foremost essayist Professor Gay also stated that the modern newspaper column is the incubator of the modern essay, and said, "Being an 'ocular athlete', that is seeing things that other people pass by unobserved, is one of the greatest aids to essay writing."
