'27 TO HAVE SQUASH TEAM

Cowles Will Coach Candidates for the Squad on New Freshman Courts

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Freshman squash meeting brought out 25 candidates last night at the Freshman Athletic Building. Captain W. P. Dixon '25 spoke to the men and Coach Cowles cutlined the plans for the Freshman squash squad.

Trial matches will be held to determine who shall be retained on the squad of eight men that Coach Cowles intends to keep through the season. During the winter other trial matches will be held by which any Freshman may work up to a place on the squad. Since this is the first college Freshman squash team in the country they will have no college opponents and will confine their matches to the teams in Class B of the Massachusetts Squash Racquets Association. The Second University squash team is also a member of Class B of the association and will be the Freshmen's chief rivals.

The first game scheduled for the 1927 team will be Saturday, December 1, with a team from Class B, yet to be decided upon. Subsequent matches will be played on Saturday afternoon until the season ends early in March. The men on the squad will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays on two specially reserved courts in the Freshman gymnasium.

The tournament which was formerly scheduled to start on November 5 will be played on an earlier date, beginning Thursday, November 1, the day on which the new Freshman squash courts will open.
