NINE TO FACE BATES TODAY

Gherke or Shugrue to Pitch in Game Called at 4 o'clock

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University nine will meet its fourth opponent of the season from the Pine Tree state this afternoon at 4 o'clock when the Bates College team invades Soldiers Field.

The visitors were defeated in their opening game with Bowdoin 6-1 on April 19 but in the week following they won from the Eagles, a strong semi-professional team of Lewiston, Maine. They bring three veterans from last year's nine which the University defeated 6 to 2 in a six-inning game cut short by rain.

Coach Slattery will use either Gherke or Shugrue in the box today, saving Goode for the struggle with Holy Cross on Wednesday.
