FRENCH SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED TO GRADUATES

Twenty-two graduate scholarships and fellowships for 1922-23 at the University of Bordeaux, Lyons, Nancy, and Toulouse have been offered by the French Department of Education and the Office National des Universities Francais, in appreciation of the scholarships awarded to French students in America.

The University of Bordeaux offers two scholarships to American students which include board and lodging. It also offers free tuition to eight other American students. The subjects recommended for study are Political Science and Law, History, Geography, Tropical Diseases, French Language and Literature.

The University of Lyons offers a scholarship of 5,000 francs, the holder to spend one semester at Lyons and the second semester either at Lyons or any other French university.

The University of Nancy offers a similar scholarship of 5,000 francs but specifies that the first holder be a student in the Faculty of Science, who shall have completed three years of advanced study in this country.

Ten Scholarships at Toulouse

The University of Toulouse offers two scholarships covering tuition, board, and lodging, and eight scholarships with free tuition. Of especial interest to American students are the following Institutes of the University: Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Agriculture, Hydrology, Provencal and Romance Philology, and French studies.

There is a possibility that the Universities of Strassburg and Paris may offer additional scholarships.

All successful applicants will receive a 30 percent rebate on their passage over and back. The cost to the student one way will be approximately $85.

All candidates should apply before May 20 to Dr. I. L. Kandel, 522 Fifth avenue, New York City. Their application should contain not only some account of the candidate's training and aim in studying abroad, but also the following necessary credentials: a statement of work done by the student, birth certificate, photograph, health certificate from the college or family physician, testimonials from two professors with whom the applicant has studied and from the college officials as to the character, ability, and promise of success of the candidate.

The scholarships are open to any American born graduate under 30 of an accredited college or university and who has a fair knowledge of French.
