'25 NINE WINS FIRST GAME

Timely Hitting by Freshmen Features--Score 4-0--Herrman Allows Visitors Only Three Scattered Hits

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Timely hitting in the first inning was largely responsible for the 4-0 Freshman victory in their opening game yesterday afternoon over the veteran nine from the United States Submarine Base of New London, Conn.

Herrman, who pitched the entire game for the yearling team, had allowed only three scattered singles and had passed but two men, when the game was called in the seventh inning to allow the visitors to catch their train.

With a man on second and third in the first inning, Hammond, the Freshman second baseman, knocked out a two base hit which brought in the first two runs of the season. An error in the fourth and sixth innings marred the play of the yearling infield. Coach Young made no substitutions during the game.
