Through the generosity of Mr. Richard Sears '91, two prizes have been offered in the Division of History, Government, and Economics. Men wishing to compete must write an essay on the following subject: "Are trade unions a benefit or detriment at the present time to labor?"
The competition is open to all undergraduates of the University. The first prize is $100, while $25 will be given for the next best composition. There is no definite length for the essays, except that they must be short enough to be read in 20 minutes. All manuscripts must be handed in to Professor W. Z. Ripley at the Department of Economics on or before March 11. A few will be selected and read as a discussion in the presence of the judges.
