COACHES PLAN TO PUT CREWS ON RIVER MONDAY

The first classification of University oarsmen into class crews and the division of Freshmen who were not listed last week, was announced yesterday. In regard to this classification Dr. Howe has made it plain that there has been no attempt to grade these combinations and that, although the yearling crews announced last week were graded to a certain extent, their selection is in no way final.

Thirty-six class crews have now been announced of which number four are Senior, nine Junior, ten Sophomore, and 13 Freshmen. The Freshmen have been divided as last year and there are now ten eights of Autumn Crew Men, two of Experienced Football Men, and one of Inexperienced Football Men.

Freshmen May Use River Early

Further plans and classification of crews according more to ability depends entirely on the condition of the river. No University class crew will go on to the Charles before the date on which all the other class eights are able to get out; in other words Dr. Howe is planning to send his whole flotilla of Senior, Junior, and Sophomore crews out on the same day. This day has been tentatively set for next Monday but changes in the weather conditions may necessitate a postponement. As for the Freshman crews if, as seems likely at present, the condition of the river permits a few shells to go on the river before that date, some of the yearling eights will probably be sent out, notably the Inexperienced Football Men crew.

If the coaches are fortunate enough to have all the crews out on Monday the men will row as at present divided for about a week after which special crews will be chosen; these latter crews will be watched in trials and in ordinary rowing and will furnish the material for the University crews which are to be picked about April 1.

The shell which has been built this year by William Lutz on the design of Crowninshield, presumably for use by the University eight, is now finished with the exception of rigging.
