UNIVERSITY SENDS NINE COMPETITORS TO TAKE PART IN FENCING MEET

UNIVERSITY AND NAVY ONLY UNDEFEATED TEAMS

Nine members of the University will compete in the intercollegiate fencing meet which will be held at the Hotel Astor in New York today and tomorrow. This squad, accompanied by Coach Danguy and S. H. Ordway Jr. 1L., captain of last year's team, left Cambridge yesterday afternoon. In the competition for the Clemens Medal Novice Championship, which will be held this morning, the University will be represented by Roland Fleer '25, winner of this year's novice tournament here, and by Paul Davier '24 and R. M. Morrison '24, who earned a position on the squad by their work in this tournament. The epee bouts will take place this afternoon with J. S. Barss '22, and J. K. Wason '23 as the Crimson entries.

The main interest of the tournament, however, will center around tomorrow's foils matches, the finals of which in the evening will bring the meet to a close. Eight colleges will be represented in this tournament, of which the University and the Navy are the only ones with undefeated teams. Both Columbia and Yale, however, have been improving since their defeat at the hands of the University and are capable of forcing their former conquerors to the limit. It must be remembered that in both of these victories the University foilsmen had the advantage of their home floor, an advantage that will be done away with when the fencers meet tomorrow on the floor of the Astor ballroom.

Captain Burke Boyce '22 is the only University representative whose record entitles him to consideration for individual honors. Captain Becker of the Annapolis team, winner of last year's intercollegiate meet, is favored to repeat his victory, but Captain Walker of Yale, the national junior champion, and Captain Bencoe of Columbia have proved their worth this season. Bencoe, especially, has stamped himself as the most likely candidate to snatch the crown from last year's champion.
