Cornell's well-balanced track team captured the team trophy at the indoor intercollegiate meet in New York Saturday with a score of 35 1-2 points. Dartmouth was second with Pennsylvania, Princeton, Penn State, and Yale finishing in that order and the University in seventh place. Dartmouth's margin of 16 1-2 points over the University was unexpected in the light of the Crimson's victory over the Green in the recent triangular meet.
In addition to Captain J. F. Brown '22, who won the 35-pound weight throw, only J. W. Burke '23 with a fourth place in the mile run, Malcolm Morse '24, who tied for fifth place in the high-jump, and the Freshman relay team, contributed to the University's eight and one half points.
Crimson Relay Teams Trail
In both relay races the Crimson was outclassed. In the University mile race so many teams were entered that it was necessary to run trial heats. In the Crimson's heat, Princeton's fast quartet was never headed, though pressed hard by the M. I. T. team. The University and Dartmouth were left to fight it out alone and J. A. McCarthy '22, anchor man for the Crimson, was unable to overcome the Green's lead. The Freshman medley relay was over a distance of 1 7-8 miles. Here though the Crimson team trailed they received a point as only five colleges were represented.
In the high-jump Morse secured half a point by virtue of a jump of 5ft., 8 3-4 in. This event was won by Leroy Brown of Dartmouth with 6 ft., 4 7-8 in., a new world's indoor record. C. H. Wansker '23 was second in the trial heat of the 70-yard dash, but failed to place in the fastest semi-final of the day. The one consolation for the Crimson came in the afternoon when Brown hurled the 35-1b. weight 47 ft., 11 in., winning the event by over four and a half feet from Wager of Cornell.
