ANNOUNCE FINAL PLANS FOR UNIVERSITY BOXING TOURNAMENT MARCH 17

At a meeting of Mr. Frank Knapp, Mr. D. V. Kelly, and Theodore Strong Jr. '22 yesterday final arrangements in preparation for the boxing tournament on Friday, March 17, were made. The entries will close on Monday afternoon as it is necessary for the management to have the names of all the men entering in order to arrange for the preliminary bouts. Unless the number of entries in each class are very evenly divided, it is probable that several preliminary matches will have to be run off on Wednesday, but it has not yet been decided whether these will be held in the morning or afternoon.

Each contestant is required to pass a physical examination before he will be allowed to enter the ring and the times for the examinations will be announced later. On Tuesday any men who are scheduled to fight in the preliminaries must weigh in at the Hemenway Gymnasium between 3.30 and 5 o'clock, while all those who are to be in the Friday bouts must weigh the day before at the same times even though they have already weighed for the preliminaries. Two pounds leeway will be allowed in the weight of each class so that men who are near the dividing line will be able to fight in two weights.

To Fight Three Rounds

Each match will consist of three two-minute rounds except in the case of no decision when an extra two-minute bout will be held to decide the winner. Only eight-ounce gloves will be used. In regard to seconds the management has ruled that each fighter will be allowed two backers but they must be students in the University.

All arrangements for permission to hold the tournament have been made with the Boxing Commission and the same organization is to furnish the judges. Coach Larry Conley is to act as referee while Mr. Kelly of the Physical Training Department, and Mr. Fred Wood will act as announcer and time-keeper respectively.
