UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL FIVE WINS FROM YALE QUINTET BY 26-13 SCORE

By doubling the score of their Blue opponents, the University basketball five scored their fifth consecutive victory yesterday afternoon at New Haven, outclassing the Yale team in every department of the game. The final count of the contest, the first between the two universities in over 13 years, was 26 to 13.

From the start of the game when Yale was penalized for holding and Captain McLeish put the Crimson in the lead by a point from the foul line, the University five was never headed. Throughout the entire first period, Coach Wachter's men showed the better team play, leading at the close by a five-point margin. In spite of the fact that the floor was larger than the Crimson's court, the invaders managed to play a tight defensive game, holding the Elis to three field goals and one point from the foul line in this half.

Fitts, whose work during the entire game was extremely brilliant, scored four times from the floor in the opening period, twice intercepting Yale passes and converting them into points. In the middle of the half, Coach Kinney banked on strategy and made three substitutions, hoping that fresh men would keep up the speed of the game but the University line-up remained unchanged, depending on team-play and long, accurate passes to conserve their srtength and hold their lead.

When the teams took the floor for the second half, the Elis were given a tremendous ovation by the prom visitors and when Kernan, the Blue left guard, scored, it looked like a Yale spurt, but the great defensive play of Black and Rudofsky, aided by baskets by McLeish and Gordon and points from free tries by McLeish, checked the rally. Because of the fact that the teams played the type of game shown in the Intercollegiate League, there were few fouls called and both fives played defensive ball throughout.

Miller, Pallo, and Lowenthal entered the game near the close and kept up the lead established by the regulars. Lowenthal sinking a basket for the final two points. The four man offence and the close five man covered defence proved too much for the Elis.
