The second stage in the early season baseball training will begin this afternoon when Coach J. T. Slattery meets the fielding candidates in the cage at 2.30. Coach Slattery has been working with the battery men since February 14 and has whipped them into good shape for the more intensive training which is to come later.
The work for the fielders will not start with any strenuous practice but will consist mainly of a general work-out to get the men limbered up. During the first few days Coach Slattery will send them through light batting, bunting, and fielding work while Trainer Donovan will start his conditioning exercises by sending his men a daily runs. The fielding candidates have already been through a certain amount of this hardening process by setting-up work at the Hemenway Gymnasium under the direction of the Physical Department.
