GLEE CLUB PLANS TO PUBLISH SONG BOOK

The University Glee Club announced yesterday its plans for the publication of a new Harvard Song Book. Work has been going on for several weeks under the direction of A. L. Moffat '23, and it is hoped to have the book on sale early in the spring.

The new book will be a cloth-bound volume of approximately 125 pages, containing about 75 songs. These will include all the football songs--among which "Ten Thousand Men of Harvard" will appear for the first time in any collection. Many of the older favorites are being revived, and the book will also contain a number of good folk songs that have not appeared in previous college song books. A notable feature is that all accompaniments will be simple and will carry the melody.

The book is being designed to meet a need that has long been felt at the University. The last edition of the University songs has been out of print for some time, and not for many years has there been a low priced collection on sale. The Glee Club is issuing the new book as close to the estimated cost as possible in an endeavor to place it within the reach of every student.

In preparing the book much difficulty has been experienced in obtaining permission to include some of the Harvard songs which have become the property of publishing houses. To avoid this in the future, as far as possible, those graduates who still own songs have been approached: and a number of them have agreed to give their copyrights to the Glee Club so that they may remain permanently in the hands of the University.

The first edition will be of about 2000 copies. The book will be six and a quarter inches by ten and a quarter. It will be printed on high grade paper, very securely bound; and will cost $1.
