HARVARD AND YALE INVITED TO FACE ENGLISH ON TRACK

Would Have Dual Meet With Crimson in Middle of June - University Authorities Favor Proposition

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Both Harvard and Yale athletic authorities were invited yesterday by cable grams to send a combined track and field team to oppose Oxford and Cambridge in London next summer. This cablegram, formally inviting Harvard and Yale to participate, was signed by Milligan, president of the Oxford Track Association, and Abrahams, president of the Cambridge Athletic Association; and reads as follows: "Oxford and Cambridge cordially invite Harvard and Yale teams to a track meet in London early in July" This invitation is receiving favorable consideration, and the hope is expressed that such a meet will materialize. Mr. W. J. Bingham, track coach at the University during the past two years is now in England with full power to conduct whatever negotiations are necessary for the carrying out of the proposed program.

Plan Previously Under Consideration

It is not to be inferred from this cable gram that such a meet has not been under consideration previously. For some time plans have been discussed by mail B. G. D. Rudd, the noted Oxford runner also has written to W. A. Barrow '87, chairman of the graduate track advisory committee, suggesting that the Harvard Yale team arrive, if possible, late in June in order-to compete in the British track and field championships, with the international college contests to be scheduled for some date between July 5 and July 10.

New Date Possible for Dual Meet

The suggestion has come from Yale, it was announced yesterday, that the date of the anual dual meet be changed to June 16 or thereabouts. Heretofore, this meet has been held about the middle of May, the track seasons of both colleges closing with the I. C. A. A. A. A. meet in the last week of that month. This new plan would add over two weeks to the length of the track season. The suggestion is looked upon with considerable favor by the authorities at the University. If carried out, it will help to keep both teams in the best possible condition for the probable meet with Oxford and Cambridge in July.
