Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
Copies of "Foreign Affairs", the first issue of which appeared recently, are now on sale at the Cooperative. This new quarterly is of especial interest to University men on account of the personnel of its staff. Dr. A. C. Coolidge '87, Professor of History at the University, is its editor and associated with him are three other Harvard men. They are: Mr. Isaiah Bowman '05, Director of the American Geographical Society; Mr. George H. Blakeslee, A.M. '00, Ph.D. '05, Professor of History and International Law at Clark University; and Mr. Edwin F. Gay LL.D., (Hon.) '18, former Dean of the Graduate School of Business Administration, and the present publisher of the New York Evening Post.
"Foreign Affairs" has been started by the Council of Foreign Affairs in New York, which, seeing the need of such a publication in America, decided to get out a quarterly review dealing with International questions of immediate and timely interest. Professor Coolidge was asked to become editor of the magazine, and agreed to do so, on the condition that there should also be a managing editor with headquarters in New York. This stipulation was agreed to, and Mr. Hamilton Fish Armstrong was appointed to the position of managing editor. Among the members of the Advisory Board is Mr. John W. Davis, former ambassador to England, and the active President of the Council of Foreign Affairs.
The complete board of the Review follows:
Archibald Cary Coolidge Editor.
Hamilton Fish Armstrong Managing Editor.
Editorial Advisory Board: Isaiah Bowman, George H. Blakeslee, John W. Davis, Stephen P. Duggan, Edwin F. Gay, Harry A. Garfield, Alexander Legge, Leo S. Rowe, George W. Wickersham.
Treats International Affairs
"Foreign Affairs" has been established "to meet the need for an American review for aid in the development of a reasoned American foreign policy." It deals with the international aspects of America's political, economic, and financial problems. The magazine is founded on the belief that there is in the United States today a need for such a review in which competent authorities may profitably lay their views before the public. It will in no sense become the organ of any party or school of thought, but on the contrary will print articles by men holding widely different opinions, provided they are based on trustworthy information.
In every issue of "Foreign Affairs", besides its leading articles, will be found a bibliography of recent books in the international field and an index of reference material for students and writers. There will also be a list of new treaties and trade agreements for the information of American business men whose work is affected by conditions abroad.
The first issue of "Foreign Affairs" contains many significant articles by prominent men including Mr. Elihu Root, Honorary President of the Council of Foreign Affairs, President Eliot and two other Harvard men: Professor George H. Blakeslee '05 and Mr. Denys P. Meyers '06, adviser to the World Peace Foundation. The complete list of contents follows:
