INTEREST CENTERS ON OXFORD DEBATE MONDAY

To accommodate those who wish to hear the debate between the University and Oxford teams on the League of Nations in Symphony Hall next Monday night, it will be necessary to place seats on the stage. A lively and brilliant verbal contest is anticipated, and it is evident that public interest in debating has not lessened since the famous clash between Senator H. C. Lodge '71 and President Lowell on the same subject two years ago.

Final arrangements for the conducting of the debate were agreed upon yesterday by R. S. Bowers '24, President of the University Debating Council, and the Institute of International Education, which has been representing the Oxford team.

As previously announced, the audience will be the sole judge of the comparative merits of the two sides, in deference to the parliamentary system in use by the Oxonians. Ballots will be provided with each program as the audience enters the hall, and will be collected at the conclusion of the debate, and counted in the presence of the audience, so that the decision can be announced from the stage within a few minutes after the final speech. Dean Greenough and Mr. A. H. Marlow, Vice-Consul of Great Britain, have been invited and have agreed to act as official tellers for the University and Oxford respectively.

The Oxford team will arrive in Boston today at noon, and, after dining with Ex-Governor S. W. McCall and representatives of the University team to go over all matters connected with the debate, will be entertained at the Holy Cross football game this afternoon.

Among those who have accepted the Council's invitation to sit on the stage are Ex-Governor S. W. McCall, Mr. George Wigglesworth '74, President of the Board of Overseers, Consul General T. P. Porter, Vice-Consul A. H. Marlow of Great Britain, Consul J. C. Joseph Flamand of France, and former Mayor A. J. Peters '95 of Boston.
