The first day's events in the annual fall handicap track and field meet went off according to schedule yesterday in spite of a heavy rain which began late in the afternoon.
The surprise of the meet occured when D. J. Quirk '26 made an even 21 feet in the broad jump from scratch, thus winning second place.
The track events of the meet will be run off at 3 o'clock this afternoon in the following order: 100-yard dash, 440-yard run, 880-yard run, 120-yard low hurdles, one-mile run, and three-mile run.
The summary:
High-Jump-Won by S. B. Jones '26, 3in., 5ft., 11in.; second, H. W. Abbett Jr. '25, 3in., 5ft., 9in.; third, Malcolm Morse, scratch, 5ft., 8in.
Pole-Vault--Won by D. D. Reidy Jr. '23. 9in., 11ft., 9in.; second, C. P. Randall 1L., 1ft., 11ft., 6in.; third, H. J. Freedman '23, 15in., 11ft., 3in.
Broad-Jump.--Won by D. Spencer '26. 18in., 21ft., 6in.; second, D. J. Quirk '26, scratch, 21ft.; third, S. M. Clark 2E.S., 1ft., 20ft., 11in.
Javelin-Throw,--Won by S. W. Leck 4E.S., 6ft., 156ft., 2in.; second, R. M. C. Greenidge 3E.S., scratch, 153ft., 1in.; third, F. W. Dorman '26, 17ft., 131ft., 2in.
