William Douglas Burden '22 of New York City was elected captain of the second University hockey team yesterday after a scrimmage with the Cambridge Latin skaters. Burden was on his Freshman hockey and baseball squad, and plays an especially strong defence on the second hockey team. He was a large factor in yesterday's scrimmage victory of 4-0.
The team showed up remarkably well considering that it was the first time Coach Wachter's men had met an outside sextet. The team does not excel in any one branch of play, but plays a well-balanced game in all departments. The forward line is fast and when the members have had more experience together they should prove to be a strong combination. The defence is steady and Burden can be relied upon to furnish valuable assistance to the wings with his speed. The shooting, however, still shows chance for improvement in regard to accuracy. The Cambridge Latin team showed a lack of team-work but displayed some speedy skating individually, Cronin and Groden being especially noticeable. Arrangements are under way to schedule another game as both coaches felt that yesterday's contest did much towards improving team-play.
From the start the seconds had little difficulty in threatening the Cambridge Latin goal, and it was early in the first period that Guild scored the opening tally. Hovey scored a little later, and the third puck was netted when Keys recovered the rubber from a scrimmage before the visitors' goal and drove it home. A long scrimmage with frequent inaccurate shots followed before the final point was added by Hovey.
The summary: Score, Harvard 4, Cambridge Latin 0. Goals, Hovey 2, Guild, Keyes. Referee, P. L. Romaine '23. Time, three ten-minute and one five-minute periods.
