DUTIES OF CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION ENLARGED

New Committees in Charge of Service and Delegations Formed--Officers and Men in Charge of Various Activities Serve as Cabinet for 1921-22

The officers of the Christian Association Cabinet for 1921-22 have been announced as follows; President, John Sedgwick Barss '22, of Windsor, Conn.; vice-president, Wesley Goodwin Brocker ocC., of Lindstrom, Minn.; secretary, George Lyman Paine Jr. '2, of New Haven, Conn.; treasurer, John Rogers Flather '23, of Lowell; in charge of New Students and Meetings,, Philips Elder Wilson '23, of East Gloucester; in charge of Foreign Students, William Claypool Bennett '23, of Somerville; in charge of Discussion Groups, Richard Harvey Sears '24, of Cambridge; in charge of Silver bay, Richard Pliny Cutler '22, of Cambridge; in charge of Delegations, Kenneth Boyd Lucas '23, of Brooklyn, N. Y.; in charge of Service, Robert Darius Howard '23, of Washington, D. C.

The Chairman of the Committee on New Students sends letters of welcome to Freshmen and unclassified students during the summer and supplies them with various handbooks; he is in charge of the Phillips Brooks House Information Bureau, established at the beginning of each year, and he and other members of the Committee visit many of the new students in the fall. The Committee also arranges the weekly Christian Association meetings.

Under the head of Church Cooperation comes the registration of a religious census at the beginning of each academic year; furnishing denominational lists, made as a result of this registration, to pastors of churches in and about Cambridge; and publishing the church bulletins for posting in the dormitories. The Committee is also the connecting link between a student and his church.

Take Census of Foreign Students

The work of the Foreign Students Committee includes taking a census of foreign students at the time of registration, receiving them at Phillips Brooks house and generally extending to them the hospitality of the University. Work in the Big Brother movement and cooperation with the Cosmopolitan Club are other duties of the Committee.

The Chairman of the Discussion Groups Committee has general charge of all religious and secular group meetings connected with Phillips Brooks House, and the Chairman of he Silver Bay Committee makes all the arrangements for the representation of the University at the annual intercollegiate religious conference.

Two new Committees have been created this year, namely that in charge of Delegations and that in charge of Service. The work of the first consists in sending speakers to schools, churches, and other organizations where they are desired; the second has the task of enlisting members of the Christian Association as Sunday School teacher and social service workers.
