As a part of their regular physical training program, 723 Freshmen this fall signed up for regular exercise with the Department of Physical Education, breaking last year's record of 600 by 123 men. Of the total number of students enrolled this fall, 658 signed up for organized athletics while the remainder took the equitation course of the Military Science Department or joined the 5 o'clock gym class at Hemenway.
As was the case last year, rowing led as the most popular activity with 169 men participating, while tennis was second with 124. Coach Campbell's record football squad of 113 men took third place, outstripping by 43 last year's turnout of gridiron men.
In former seasons track has usually held fourth place in popularity, but this fall with 45 men out it was sent down to seventh place by handball with 58, swimming with 55 and the equitation class which had 52 men enrolled.
