RHODES APPLICATIONS DUE

Men in the University who intend to be candidates for the Rhodes Scholarships at Oxford for the year 1922-23 must hand in their applications at President Lowell's office before 12 o'clock today. A scholarship is tenable for three years, subject to the continued approval of the college at Oxford of which the holder is a member.

The nominal stipend of a Rhodes Scholarship is 300 pounds a year, but for the present scholars will receive a bonus of 50 pounds per annum. The trustees do not regard the additional 50 pounds as a permanent addition to the scholarship, but the bonus will not be withdrawn without adequate notice or in any case where a candidate has been elected in expectation of receiving it.

To be eligible for a Rhodes Scholarship, a man must fulfill certain qualifications, and it is essential that each applicant, in submitting his name to President Lowell, tell from what state he wishes to be a candidate. In every state in the country, there is a State Committee of Selection to which President Lowell will send the nominations. No examinations need be taken by applicants this year and the final selections will be made by the State Committees on December 3.
