Following the example set this year by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in regard to the Freshmen, the Business School has voted that beginning next year physical examinations will be made compulsory for all its students. After these examinations, which will take place soon after the opening of the University next fall, voluntary classes will be organized in various sports. The whole movement will be conducted under the general supervision of the Department of Physical Training, but it is probable that in most cases the exercise will be carried out without the assistance of special instructors.
With the idea of obtaining some approximation of the number of students who are interested in each particular sport, the Sports Committee of the Business School Club has secured from each man a list of those athletics in which he would like to participate. According to the statistics which have been secured, tennis is by far the most popular sport, with swimming, the next in order, receiving less than half the number of votes. Golf, basketball and bowling follow in close succession, and below these practically every sport has a smattering of devotees. Tournaments and interclass games were favored by two-thirds of the voters, and a slightly smaller number desired contests with the Law School.
Next fall, working with these figures as a basis, a regular plan of elective exercise will be organized with classes in special corrective exercises for those in the "D Group" who desire them. During the short time which remains this spring no active plan will be inaugurated, although the Department of Physical Training will be glad to give physical examinations and suggestions as to exercise to any Business School men.
