The 1924 harriers showed fine form in their first real run over the four-mile Freshman course at Belmont yesterday. A squad numbering about a dozen reported for practice, of whom several were new men who had little time to get in condition.
Captain O'Connell led the Freshmen around the shorter course. There was no race, as it is early in the season, and the men kept together as well as possible. In spite of this the pace was a sharp one and Captain O'Connell with about seven Freshmen covered the course in 20 minutes. This remarkably fast time for the first trial gives great promise for a fine Freshman cross-country team. Prescott and Saunders were two of the 1924 men, who finished in the lead.
University Harriers Also Cover Course
The University harriers ran the six-mile course at Belmont yesterday for the first time. Up to that time the course had been shortened slightly. Captain Bemis led his men at a slow pace, and, as in the case of the Freshman, there was no race. The team kept together and covered the distance in about three-quarters of an hour. Although the pace was quite slow the men showed good condition.
