In the University tennis tournament all singles matches but one (up to the semi-finals), have been played, while one man has already entered the next to last round. By a victory over R. F. Swett, 2G.B., in two fast sets, 6-4, 6-4, A. Hoppe 1L., won his way into the semi-finals.
One of the surprises of the afternoon's play was the defeat of G. C. Guild '23, of last year's Freshman team, at the hands of E. A. Niles 3L. Niles will next play Captain L. A. de Turenne '21, and the match promises to be an interesting one. B. Fenno '21 and J. R. Morss '21 both advanced into the fifth round by defeating C. Farnham '23 and V. Romaine '21, respectively.
The doubles tournament is progressing slowly, having not reached yet the semi-finals. No matches, singles or doubles, were played yesterday.
The results on Monday were: A. Hoppe 1L. defeated D. Davis, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4; E. A. Niles 3L. defeated G. C. Guild '23, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2; R. F. Swett 2G.B. defeated P. E. Jackson '21, 6-0, 6-2; J. R. Morss '21 defeated V. Romaine '21, 6-4, 2-6 6-4; B. Fenno '21 defeated C. Farnham '24, 6-4, 6-2; A. Hoppe 1L. defeated R. F. Swett 2G.B., 6-4, 6-4; H. Guild 2L. defeated H. Haskell '24, 6-1, 6-0; H. Guild 2L. and C. Hyams defeated J. Farnham '23 and C. Farnham '24, 6-1, 6-2; W. R. Chandler 3L. and L. E. Stockwell 2L. defeated E. A. Niles 3L. and A. S. Garwood 2L., 6-4, 7-5.
