Lieutenant-Commander Albert C. Read, commanding officer of the famous NC4, first plane to successfully complete a trans-atlantic flight, will be the guest of honor at a small informal dinner in the Trophy Room of the Union. Monday evening at 7 o'clock. He will later make an address at a meeting open to all members of the University in the Living Room of the Club. He will be accompanied by the crew of the NC4 and by three officers from the "mother ship", the U. S. S. Isobel. After the dinner Professor R. B. Merriman '96 will introduce Commander Read, who will then speak on his experiences during the famous flight from America to Europe.
The three other members of the original trans-atlantic crew to be present are: Lieutenants (j.g.) W. K. Hinton and H. C. Rodd, and Chief Machinist E. S. Rhodes. The other guests who are members of the Present crew are: Lieutenants(j. g.) F. D. Halbert and J. B. Anderson, Ensign P. Talbot, Warrant Machinist L. Moore, and Chief Machinist C. I. Kessler. The officers who have been invited from the U. S. S. Isobel are: Commander B. B. Taylor, Lieutenant-Commander G. W. Weichelt and Lieutenant E. H. Geiselman.
NC4 Arrives Today.
The NC4, which is making a tour of the Atlantic Coast in the interests of recruiting, is due to arrive from Portland today at 4 o'clock and is expected to fly around the city before landing at the "Army Base."
On Monday evening Commander Read and the crew of the NC-4 will be brought from Boston in automobiles at 6.30 and met at the Union by a committee composed of Deans C. N. Greenough '98, K. B. Murdock '16, and E. R. Gay '19, and E. A. Whitney '17. Members of the Faculty and all students in the University are invited to attend the meeting.
