The fact that two thousand American officers and men are studying in English universities marks a noteworthy event in the history of the educational relationship between the two Anglo-Saxon countries. In France, also soldier-students of the American Army are in attendance at the time-honored institutions of learning. The effect of academic association with European culture on the part of these men should be exceedingly broadening. It is to be hoped that a spirit of fellowship with the French and English student can be brought overseas by the home-coming soldier, thus strengthening the ties which already bind the three nations so strongly.
It is especially to be noted that the American headquarters at Cambridge are at Emmanuel College, whence came the founder of the University. The return of American students to the source from which sprang the first college in the United States, and under such auspices, is indeed, unparalleled in the annals of education.
